We Can End Rape on Our Planet
The Project for the End of Rape (PERI) is a global movement of voices for the end of rape, officially formed in the USA in March 2005. PERI is now located in nine countries and is expanding. We invite all people to join in our mission to end rape on the planet.
Until 2002, human society lived in a paradigm of rape's inevitability. This paradigm—that rape would always exist—was an unspoken, unconscious thought, accepted by all humankind. Therefore, no action had been taken to forward the end of rape. No funding was allocated to investigate what it would take to end rape.
Then in 2002, four people—one from Afghanistan, one from Australia, and two from the United States of America—sat down to consider the ending of rape. They observed that just contemplating the possibility of ending rape brought with it a deep-seated upset and sadness. They recognized their reaction of resignation and sadness as the mindset of rape. It became clear that this is the mindset that allows rape to be seen as inevitable and inescapable. When these four transcended the mindset of rape, they saw that rape could be ended. Their conversations began PERI—a group of people demanding the end of rape.
